Multi-Instrumentalist Keegan Powell Shares the Introspective “In My Cave” from New ‘Alien Radio’ LP
Canadian musician Keegan Powell makes songs that explore the mystery of pain, the release of demons and how through it all, life actually may be some kind of miracle. Imbued with infectious hooks and ferocious energy, Alien Radio is a compilation album composed of tracks previously released and unreleased from Powell’s archive, spanning across several separate recordings from the years 2016-2019. Inspired by wanting to contextualize his current albums with bits and bobs that were lost along the way, the tracks are a glimpse into an artist trying to overreach his ability and achieving it, only to forget about it altogether.
An ultimate companion piece to Powell’s previous work (including the college radio staple Fear Be Gone LP), Alien Radio (now charting on NACC’s Top 30 Top Adds) consists of crystal clear pop songs in the guise of quarter life angst.
For Powell, “In My Cave” brings back memories of being 24-years-old which was a very strenuous and arduous period in his life. He feels fortunate that he was able to make a lot of music around that era – a time when he wasn’t even sure how he was going to make it through most days. While Powell previously thought a lot of Alien Radio’s tracks were “lost,” the medium of music has made them found and alive again.

AUTOPILOT Releases Official Music Video for "Undisguised," 'Afterglow' LP Out NOW!
Canadian Alternative Rock Band AUTOPILOT has released the official music video for their single, “Undisguised.” Directed by Kevin Van Witt, “Undisguised” is off of the band’s latest album, Afterglow.
“We don’t need these walls between us!” lyrics in “Undisguised” from Autopilot, a song that bridges the feelings of the times with modern rock vibes. It’s a song that questions why do we put up walls when love is what we really want.
youtube
“After 20 consecutive shows on tour we had a few days off in NYC to shoot the video for Undisguised. Director Kevin Van Witt captured the contrast of the lyrics with empty streets in a condensed and often chaotic city.” – Autopilot

Over the last few years, Canadian alternative rock band Autopilot has become a staple in the Saskatoon indie music scene. Known for their thoughtful lyrics, powerful hooks, dynamic stage show, and obsessive hard work, they somehow seem to effortlessly walk the line between passionate art and massive appeal. Over the course of 3 full-length records, and one EP, they’ve become road warriors, touring relentlessly across Canada and the US. They’ve been praised for their tireless work ethic by publications like Canadian Musician Magazine, who called them “quite possibly one of the hardest working bands in the country.”
Autopilot’s highly anticipated new record Afterglow, their most impressive and accessible record to date, produced by legendary Saskatchewan producer, S.J. Kardash, and backed by their most ambitious marketing campaign yet, finds the band reaching for bigger sounds, bigger ideas, and much bigger audiences. The release of their new single “Undisguised” following the success of preceding singles “Living Dead” and “Weightless”, is proof positive of this growing momentum.
Marlon Harder, the driving creative force behind Autopilot, has a knack for finding beauty in simple moments, and hope in the challenges life tends to bring. Inspired by the early writing of Modest Mouse, he seemed to know very quickly what he wanted to do in life. After the release and College radio buzz of their first record Now It’s Time You Know What We’re Losing For, unexpected illness struck, effectively putting the band on the back burner for the foreseeable future. But he never quit writing. Health improved, lineups changed, and in 2013 they teamed up with S.J. Kardash for the release of Diamond Rough, a sophomore full-length forged in the fires of struggle, faith, and growing maturity. The record widely expanded their media exposure across North America; in print, online, commercial rock radio, CBC, podcasts, and through licensing placement on major US television networks.
Their 2015 release, Desert Dreams, reunited the band with Kardash, and represented a significant leap forward in both the ever expanding sound, and rapidly growing fan base the band had built strongly upon with 2013’s Diamond Rough. Along with debuting on Earshot’s Top 50 chart, Desert Dreams received heavy rotation on The Verge, Sirius XM’s Iceberg Radio, and garnered the attention of New York’s prestigious CMJ; while securing the band showcases at Toronto’s CMW and Indie Week festivals, AYE Fest in Cincinnati, Fairfield Revival Festival in Minnesota, and opening doors to tour extensively in the United States.
Autopilot has always been a dedicated touring band. In support of Diamond Rough, Desert Dreams, and the 2017 release of the single “Hurricane” / “Crooked Lines”, the band spent countless months on the road touring across Canada and the United States. These tours have included stops at Jersey Shore Festival, Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and a main stage performance at Mesa Music Festival in Arizona supporting hard rock legends P.O.D. October 2018 marked the release of Afterglow, which chartered in the top 200 on the NACC North American College Charts as well as specialty radio in the US.
The future is truly wide open for Autopilot. Everything they’ve learned is on the table for 2019 while they continue to promote the release of Afterglow. They are casting their net wider, and going all in. Never content to sit still or play it safe, they’ve crafted a remarkable live show, and plan on spending as much time over the next year as possible, getting the new songs in front of as many new fans as they possibly can.

Tomorrow! This Sunday, PHCC Concert Series Presents: Alice Howe Sunday, July 7 Doors at 6:30 Show at 7pm No cover charge, but donations encouraged Alice Howe's new record, "Visions", was recently the #1 album on the NACC folk charts in the month of June. Here is a rare chance to see a true working artist in an intimate setting at the Pine Hill Community Center in beautiful Pine Hill, NY. Here’s what people are saying: “Sometimes we’re lucky enough to catch an up-and-coming artist as they fly into our radar. This is one of those times." - American Blues Scene / JD Nash "Howe not only has a luminous alto voice full of warmth and delectable nuance, but she also writes smart and affecting lyrics flavored with wit and irreverence." - The Patriot Ledger / Jay Miller "A gem...at once of the moment and personal, timeless and universal." - Americana UK / Mark Walton “Up there with the very best of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Gretchen Peters and Dar Williams” – Folking.com “These are well-crafted songs” – Country Music People (UK) "...refined and effortless." - Rock n' Reel Magazine (UK) / Gareth Hayes "...one of the finest voices among female singer-songwriter coupled with a warm and engaging stage presence." - Rich Warren, host, WFMT Chicago's Midnight Special and Folkstage “...I could listen to her sing for hours. Her voice is beautiful as a bell, classic in that Joan Baez way, transporting, wistful…her vocal mastery and musicality are beyond her young years and her songs stay in my head for days.” -Antje Duvekot "How can a singer-songwriter have a voice like a broken angel's bell and write songs that could be a week or a hundred years old all at once? Alice Howe, that's how." - Vance Gilbert (at Pine Hill Community Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzmL_BfA_ru/?igshid=1tg7p7z9c8eew

Far from your typical bedroom pop indie artist, The Shakes are a brilliant glimpse into a world of clarity. Composed of songwriter Sean Perry as the frontman, Cameron Pearson on guitar, Syd Tagle on keys/synth, Tanner Henderson on bass and Levi matullis on the drums, The Shakes are a modge podge of individuals with an artistic voice unlike anything else in the current indie scene.
Drawing from every key decade of pop, the Los Angeles based group infuses R&B sounds and infectious lyricism with every single. Whether it’s exploring topics like the complications of relationships or the struggle with faith and identity, The Shakes find no topic unreachable. Their music is stunningly human in its vulnerability and beauty, making every song a sensual experience. The Shakes are not for your ears. They are not for your eyes or your tongue. The Shakes are for your soul. Following the release of their acclaimed debut EP With Every Moment, which held a spot on the NACC charts for 3 weeks in a row, the band are releasing their "B side playlist” From The Bedroom, a culmination of tracks which represent the first step toward their true artistic direction together as a group. Each track details personal stories about relationships, not only about girlfriends but also friends and family. Tracked, produced and mixed all from the comfort of their living room, The Shakes have crafted an intimate and vulnerable experience for the listener and you can hear it in these tunes.
Leading track, 'Underneath A Blood Orange Sky’ consists of dreamy melodic tones which compliment the melancholy lyrics that echo through the end. Bringing forth the opportunity for Perry to tell the story of an adolescent boy trying to make the best of his moments, alone for the first time, within a new world, full of uncertainty. Perry reveals, "It starts off with a voicemail of my dad attempting to reconnect with me after we had a huge falling out. Our relationship had diminished for a while after a series of personal events. This was him reaching out to me when I was distant and in an uncomfortable state of mind. Over the years we've rekindled and our relationship is flourishing now”. "Heaven (Doesn't seem too far away)” is a note to remind others that no matter how hard life gets, always try and look at it with a lighter perspective. It expresses the importance of being grateful for the friends and family and to not be afraid to reach out for help, even if it makes you look vulnerable. "I Just Want To Feel Something” was written to create an uncomfortable experience for the listener, with both the lyrics and the instrumentation. With all the twists and turns, the overall feeling of the song feels like a wave of anxiety. Perry confides, “This song is for the kid sitting in his/her room searching for a purpose in his/her life”.
It has always been the main focus of this group to speak for the young voice that can not speak for themselves. No matter the age group, THE SHAKES are ready to be a voice for a generation. https://www.itstheshakes.com https://www.instagram.com/theshakesmusic https://twitter.com/theshakesmusic_ https://www.facebook.com/itstheshakes
